Lisa Groth grew up in West Point and graduated from West Point High School. From there she went on to Wayne State College where she earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Family and Consumer Science Education in 1997. She finished her Masters in Science in Education in Curriculum and Instruction in 2005.She has taught ten years total  with eight years at Leigh and two years at Wilson Study Center and Benson High School, both in Omaha.

Lisa Groth lives with her husband, Steve, and her four children: Ty, Hannah, Brooke, and Audra. Mrs. Groth has a housecat, Howie, and a dog, Ozzy.
