EducationQuest is a non-profit Nebraska Organization. They offer scholarship and college searches, loan counseling, financial aid advice and much more. Offices are located in Lincoln, Omaha and Kearney. Their website can be accessed at www.educationquest.org. It is a great organization and will be a very helpful resource throughout your senior year as well as college.
The Guidance Resource Room is located in the library and is open during the same hours. Scholarships, college and financial aid information as well as many books and resources are kept in this room. Most items are for the taking, however, all catalogs and books must be signed out and returned.
According to school policy each senior receives 2 college visits. Any further visits are counted as a regular absence. Students are responsible for calling the college and scheduling their visits (colleges need at least 1 week notice). A parental/guardian-signed note must be brought to the office and a “blue sheet” will be issued. The blue sheet must be signed by each teacher and given to the office at least 1 day prior to the visit. Any missed work is the responsibility of the student.
Transcripts will be sent only at the student’s request. A “Transcript Request” form must be filled out and given to the counsel/office. These forms can be found in the Guidance Resource Room. Allow 3 days when requesting transcripts.
Different colleges will be visiting the school throughout the year. Sign up sheets will be on the guidance door. In order to have a meeting area large enough to accommodate the size of the group Students need to sign up to see the representative. If you would like to request a specific college please see Mrs. Schmid.
A list of scholarships is kept in the hallway, guidance room and on the Aquinas web site. It is important to check it regularly as it will change often. The scholarships on the list can be found in the file cabinet drawer marked “Scholarships” in the guidance resource room. Also www.educationquest.org has a substantial listing of Nebraska scholarships within their “Scholarship Search” section. Students have also had good luck using the site www.fastweb.com Many scholarships require letters of recommendation or a section for the counselor or principal-be sure to give a sufficient amount of time when asking for these things to be completed.
After receiving an acceptance or award letter bring the letters to the counselor. A copy of them will be made and the original will be returned. This is necessary for graduation purposes.
A senior newsletter will be printed at the beginning of each month. This will contain general information as well as reminders about important deadlines.
A $5.00 fee for each senior is due at the beginning of the year. This fee is used to cover postage, phone calls, and other expenses that are associated with college and career planning.
