He recently continued his education at Central Community College-Columbus, and Wayne State College. Dan graduated in the spring of 2007 with a Bachelors Degree in Education with an endorsement in Natural Science. Mr. Schmidt is married to Virginia, with a daughter (Katie) and a son (Andrew).

He currently lives on the same farm that he grew up on. His wife and he are empty-nesters with both of their children in college

"I find both Science and young minds fascinating. There is always something new that pops up when dealing with Science and I am continually intrigued how high school and junior high students reinvent and construct a worldview often superior to their predecessors."
