Lady Panthers go 2 sets to win
by Christa Hake
Two quick sets was all it took for the Lady Panthers to take down the
Lutheran High Northeast Eagles on September 30. The Panthers started homecoming
week off with a bang winning 15-5, 15-7.
“We didn't’t know what to expect, because we didn't’t
know anything about them, but I knew we could beat anyone if we put our
minds to it,” said sophomore setter Tessa Wietfeld.
The first set flew by with the help of senior hitter Nicole Wiemer slamming
down 9 kills and Angela Fuhr, senior, slamming down 8. Jenny Olson, sophomore,
tallied 4 kills and contributed defensively with 3 blocks. Tessa Wietfeld,
added 21 assists to the victory.
“Our chemistry just clicks. We don’t get mad at each other,
we just play our game,” said Wietfeld.
The second set went by even faster as Fuhr bulleted over 6 aces and scored
12 of the 15 points straight to win the game. Kayla Wietfeld, sophomore,
also scored 5 points to add to the win, and fellow sophomores Stephanie
Larson and Tessa Wietfeld trailed right behind with 4 each.
The last volleyball game to complete the homecoming week will be verses
Humphrey St. Francis on Thursday, October 2 with the C-team game starting
at 6:00 p.m.

LHF rallies after half for win over LHS
by Tiffany Mullenhoff
Being the 2002 D-2 Football State Runner-Ups, the Bulldogs of Lindsay
Holy Family had a reputation to keep. September 26, 2003, the Panthers
came into Lindsay ready to show them defeat. After a hard fought first
half and deadlocked score, the Bulldogs took control of the second half,
beating the Panthers 51-14.
“We wanted to run the ball hard, and stop their offense,”
said sophomore Brad Drumheller. Still prominent in the Panther’s
mind was last year’s heartbreak against Lindsay. The Panthers opened
the game and jumped out on top of the Bulldogs with a touchdown pass in
the opening possession. Quarterback, Cole Fischer launched a 30 yd. pass
to senior Kyle Brabec with a fingertip catch on the 15 yard line to run
it into the end zone. The Panthers held a 6-0 lead, and the Bulldogs fired
right back one play later with a touchdown of their own to tie up the
game at the end of the first quarter.
The score remained deadlocked throughout the first quarter and half. Sophomore,
Brad Drumheller ran the Panther’s second touchdown and followed
up with the PAT for the Panthers’ last score of the night. Lindsay
once again followed with a touchdown and extra points to keep the game
neck and neck going into the final half of the game.
“Kickoff return for a touchdown,” said Drumheller, was how
the momentum shifted back Lindsay’s way. Both teams came back after
the half fired up with the still tied score, and within the first seconds
Lindsay’s long touchdown, off the kickoff return, sent the Panthers
back home, as Lindsay finished the game holding the Panther’s scoreless
in the second half with a 51-14 finish. Leading the Panthers was Drumheller
with 82 rushing yards, and senior, Kyle Brabec with 95 receiving yards.
Brabec also led the team in tackles with 12, and seniors Sean Malena and
Josh Gall each added 6 for a strong defensive line.
“Working hard during practice and working together with my teammates,”
said Drumheller is how the team prepares for the next obstacle. Homecoming
week tips off September 29 and the Panthers look to seek revenge on Clarkson
October 3rd for a Homecoming victory.

Caught
In Flight JV/C VB defeat LHNE Eagles
by Carrie Anderson “Come on girls we want one more
win on the list,” thought Amanda Bayer, Junior before their match
on September 30 with Lutheran High Northeast.
For the C-team the win was quick ending 15-1, 15-10. Justine McMullin, freshman
finished the night with 8 kills and Brianne Hake, freshman eared 14 assists
for the match.
The JV’s on the other hand had a battle to catch the Eagles and bring
them down. It took the Panthers three sets for victory, 15-4, 14-15, 15-7.
Bayer’s reaction to this game was, “You know a win is a win,
but we didn't’t play to our full potential. We missed some serves
and need more communication. I believe we played pretty well and pulled
out another win for the record.” “I was impressed with
the aggressiveness of our hitters,” said coach Jill Grant about the
JV Team. Janelle Hollatz, Junior finished with a wailing 15 kills for the
win.
Catch the Lady Panthers in their next match on Thursday October 2 at
Humphrey St . Francis.

| Serving Challenge
Serves a major factor in JH VB
by Justine McMullin
The high school gym burst with excitement on Monday, September 29, as
the JH volleyball team matched-up with the Stanton Fillies
“It was a great game. I think our serving and communication is definitely
improving,” says JH coach, Mrs. Jennifer Osten, about the 7th grade
game. Jody Wendt led the 7th graders with 100% serving and 4 aces.
The 7th graders hung tough with a talented Stanton team. Stanton came
out strong right away and won the first set 4-15. During the 2nd set Leigh
rallied to win 15-7. Both teams gave it their all in the 3rd set, but
Stanton pulled out the victory, winning 15-12.
“Serving! Serving! Serving!” exclaims Coach Osten. “The
8th graders were just not on tonight with their serves.” Unlike
the 7th graders, the 8th grade team did struggle in the serving department
with just 60% serving on the night.
The Fillies dominated the first set of the 8th grade game, winning 3-15.
With 9 missed serves in the second set Leigh had to rely on its hitting
and passing game. They managed to win, 15-7. In the third set the Fillies
prevailed, winning 7-15. This disappointing loss was the first of the
season for the 8th graders, leaving them with a 3-1 record.

by Talia Neuhaus
The new record for the seventh grade volleyball team is 1-2, and the eighth

the ball was a big improvement over previous games!”
The Eighth grade won in two sets as well, 15-8, 15-10. Jessica Bayer,
eighth grader, led her time with 9 kills. Classmate, Tara Settje finished
with 10 assists. Serving was a big factor in the game as eighth grader,
Courtney Wendt, finished with 11 points.
Mrs. Osten said, “Tonight we had many players step up in areas that
we needed support in. To have three people with 100 percent serving was
a contributing factor in helping us win.”

Spirit/Pride Lost
Undefeated Leigh, St. Fran face off in VB
by Tiffany Mullenhoff
When a 9-0 team and a 11-0 team go head to head, unfortunately, one team
has to lose. The Leigh Lady Panthers took on St. Francis on October 2nd,
2003, falling with a defeat, but not falling in spirit or pride.
“The whole first set,” said sophomore Jenny Olson was the
highlight of the game, “I think we showed them that we’re
a team to be taken seriously.” The Panthers jumped out on the Flyers
early in the first set, as they slowly watched the score board rally up
points the Panthers way. The Flyer’s found themselves in a hole
down 3-8, as they tried to claw back into the game. Finally, the Flyer’s
regained control of the game and both teams found the set score tied up
14-14. The Flyer’s took the final possession, and served up the
final two points, leaving the Panther’s with only their second set
loss of the season.
The Panthers tried to gain control of the second set, but the Flyer’s
were determined. With a slow start in the second set, and some struggling
with serving, the Panthers couldn't pull off the victory and ended the
second set with an 8-15 defeat. The Panthers at one point in the second
set, were down in a 0-11 slump, and they pulled together, and reeled off
8 points, just short of taking the lead.
“I’d rather have lost now then in Sub-Districts,” said
Olson, “That’s the only place it counts.” Leading the
Panther’s was sophomore, Tessa Wietfeld with 7 points, 1 ace, and
10/10 serving. She also added 17 assists, setting up the top hitters of
the night, seniors, Angela Fuhr with 9 kills, and Nicole Wiemer with 5
kills. Strong defensive player, sophomore, Kayla Wietfeld added 12 digs,
in stopping the Flyer’s.
The next opponent for the Panthers is on October 8, at Shelby. “We
can’t underestimate them, but we’re just coming off our 1st
loss, so we want to get back and show everyone that the loss didn’t
hurt us,” said Olson.

Attack
Winside takes down Leigh JVs
by Reed Settje
October 6, 2003, Cats on the Prowl, Winside, Nebraska. Looking for a
victory, the Leigh JV football team found the Wildcats of Winside standing
in their way. With a final score of 26-42, the loss brought the JV football’s
record to 1-2.
“Pass blocking and our running game hurt us,” stated freshman
Scott Muhle, who took home 14 tackles on the day. Junior Joe Vomacka pitched
in 15, and sophomore Andy Bachman added 14 of his own tackles to help
out the Panthers.
At the end of the first quarter of play, the Panthers were down 6-8. The
second quarter was rough also, with Winside putting another 14 points
on the board, compared to Leigh’s 6. Coming out of halftime, Leigh
was on a rampage to get the score board equal. They dropped 14 points
and set the score at 26-30. That would be the last of Leigh’s points,
but not Winside’s. The Wildcats pulled away with 12 more on the
board to end the game at 26-42.
“After halftime we began to fall apart,” added Muhle. Winside
came up with 13 first downs, much higher than Leigh’s 5. Three penalties
and two lost fumbles also kept the Panthers from taking home the victory.
The Junior Varsity have just two games left. They take on St. Francis
on October the 13, and Howells comes to town on the 21st.

Fight
Bobcats too much to handle
by Angela Fuhr
The Leigh Junior High Volleyball teams traveled to the Howells for a
brawl on October 6th.
Even though both teams came out of the gym with a loss, they held their
heads high. Both games were hard fought. The 8th graders went down in
3 sets and the 7th graders in 2. The 7th grade fell short, 2-15, 12-15.
Anna Pinkston, Lacosta Davis, and Jody Wendt all had 100% serving.
“There were only two missed serves in the entire game which is more
than can be expected and a big improvement for these girls,” said
coach Jennifer Osten.
The 8th grade had a thriller, with the scores of 5-15, 15-2, and 11-15.
Tara Settje ended the night with a game high 10 points.
“We knew that they were an awesome team, so we expected an exciting
game and we got that,” said Courtney Wendt.
The 8th grade record stands at 3-2 and the 7th grade at 1-4. The next
time they hit the floor will be on October 11th at the Clarkson Invitational.
Both teams will be playing together. Catch them in action as their junior
high season wraps up. “What a way to end the regular season and
get prepared for the Clarkson Invitational,” stated Osten.

This Time Devils
Panthers get their Revenge
by Drew Huisman
All week long one thought stayed in the mind of the Panther football team,
that thought was of revenge. The Panthers waited a whole year for another
shot at the Red Devils, after falling 20-12 last season. And on Oct. 7th
the Panthers got their shot at revenge.
The Red Devils came out of the gates fast as they got ahead of the Panthers
8-0, early in the first quarter. “We got down early, but we stayed
pumped up, and came back strong,” stated senior Sean Malena. The
Panthers, finding themselves down 8-0, rallied back in the second quarter
to take the halftime lead 14-8. The play that turned the whole game around
came from senior Vance Wietfeld, who made an unbelievable diving catch
for the Panthers first touchdown early in the 2nd quarter. “Vance’s
catch really got the team fired up,” stated Malena.
In the second half the Panthers seemed to come out of the gates slow once
again, as Clarkson tied the game up 14-14 early in the 3rd quarter. It
seemed the Panthers momentum was dying as they went scoreless in the 3rd
quarter. But the 4th quarter proved to be a whole new ball game. The Panthers
pounded the ball straight at the Red Devils, time after time on their
way to gaining 343 yards on the ground.
“ In the 4th quarter we really started to play as a team,”
stated Malena. The Panthers scored 24 unanswered points in the 4th quarter
to win 38 to 14. Leading the Panther offence was a balanced running attack
of Brad Drumheller and Vance Wietfeld. Vance led the team with 155 yards,
while Brad was not far behind with 141 yards. Defensively, the Panthers
were led by junior Tim Gall with 11 tackles.

Up The Dogs
Lady Panthers defeat Shelby Huskies in two
by Nicole Wiemer
“Who let the dogs out?” Well, that question was never answered
as the Lady Panthers kept the Lady Huskies in chains as they defeated
them in straight sets, 15-6, 15-12 in non-conference play.
“Shelby was a good team, but I knew that they were no match for
us,” commented junior, Christa Hake on the game. The Lady Panthers
dominated nearly ever aspect of the game, despite falling into 1-9 and
6-13 holes in the second set. With an impressive show by sophomore, Tessa
Wietfeld, serving 7 consecutive points, the Panthers were able to stay
in the game and get back in control.
“The girls never lost their composure or confidence when they were

Down the Jays
Panther volleyball team pounds Newman Grove
by Drew Huisman
A 4-0 record, and a number #9 ranking in the Omaha World Herald, the
Panther volleyball team seemed to have everything going their way. And
on September 16th they traveled to Newman Grove to keep the streak going.
The girls came out hot as they jumped on top of the Lady Jays 11-1. To
begin the first set, Jenny Olson, sophomore, led the rally serving for
5 straight points. “We served really well, which was a big improvement
from our last game,” said senior Angela Fuhr. The Panthers seemed
to have more than just serving going for them as they won the first set
15-3.
After an early scare in the second set the Panthers found themselves down
2-0 to the Blue Jays. “In the second set we really had some trouble
receiving their serves,” said Angela. But the Panthers had no trouble
rallying back taking the second set 15-2.
Leading the Panther attack was Sophomore Jenny Olson with 11 points and
5 aces while Nicole Wiemer senior, also pitched in 9 points. Nicole also
led the team with 5 kills, and Sophomore Tessa Wietfeld led the team with
9 assists.
With the win the Panthers improved to 5-0 on the season. Their next test

| Chief’s
Fall to Leigh
Leigh comes out on top again
by Mickey Olmer
October 10 was a great night for a FB game, as the Omaha Nation Chiefs
came all the way to Leigh to be beaten in a close game. With a final score
of 22-20, the Leigh Panthers have another win to add to their record making
them 4-2.
“The most exciting part of the game was when Cole ran it in for
a TD to get us back in the game,” states Zach Kabes, freshman. Other
strong points of the game were a TD pass to both Andy Bachman, sophomore,
and Tim Gall, junior.
The two teams played an evenly matched game. Falling behind 0-6 in the
first quarter, had the Panthers more determined to come back in the second
quarter, scoring 8 points from an awesome catch in the end zone to junior,
Tim Gall, from sophomore, Cole Fischer. Cole finished the night with 68
yards passing. Senior, Vance Wietfeld, was his favorite target as he caught
3 catches for 41 yards. The Panthers left the field at halftime in the
lead. “I knew we could win, but we had to be physical,” states
Zach.
“It was a well fought game,” said Zach. And that is was. In
the 3rd quarter Andy Bachman, sophomore, scored on a pass in the end zone
to put the Panthers ahead by 2. Andy had 2 catches for 27 yards.
This nail-biting game had the fans cheering louder than ever. In the final
minutes, Fischer ran the ball in for a TD to put the Panthers ahead for
good. The leading rusher for Leigh was sophomore Brad Drumheller with
49 yards. Leading the defense in tackles was senior Josh Gall with 11.
Drumheller, and Wietfeld each had 9 tackles.

Tourney Time
JH Volleyball places 5th in Clarkson Tourney

Alarm clocks rang, breakfasts were eaten, and shoe laces were laced
up as the Junior High Volleyball team prepared for the annual Clarkson
Invite, held at Leigh.
The Junior High first squared off with a tough St. Fran team, where they
first jumped out on top 15-9 but then lost the next two sets 8-15, 3-15.
Leading the offensive attack was 8th graders Courtney Wendt and Jessica
Bayer with 9 kills each. Tara Hake and Courtney Wendt both led in the
aces department with 3 and 4 aces a piece and 8th grader Tara Settje put
up a game high 15 assists. “Playing St. Fran was fun because even
though we lost we still played a really good game,” stated 8th grader
Courtney Wendt, “we've definitely improved since last year".
With a loss in first round play the Junior Panthers had to battle up from
the losing bracket where they first played Osceola and beat them in two
close sets 15-12, 15-13. Courtney Wendt and Jessica Bayer once again led
the attack with 7 and 5 kills a piece. Cheyanne Maguire had 7/7 serving
and Jessica Bayer had 3 aces. Courtney Wendt popped up 6 digs and Tara
Settje added 9 assists. “We new we had to win this game so that
we wouldn’t get eliminated from the tournament, and we all came
together and played as a team and did it,” added Wendt.
With a big win over Osceola, the Leigh Panthers were placed in a match
with Rising City, in which they captured a respected 5th place finish
with a 15-4, 7-15, 15-13 win. Chelsea Vomacka and Tara Hake led the pack
in ace serves with 6 a piece, while Courtney Wendt added 5. Wendt also
led the kills with 7, while Jessica Bayer followed with 6.
“It was a very successful tournament, and we had tough competition,”
said Junior High Volleyball Coach Jennifer Osten. “I am very proud
of the improvement that the squad has shown throughout the season, and
I want to thank them for their hard work.”

Women+1 Guy=?
Inside hit show “The Bachelor”
by Justine McMullin
What happens when you have 25 gorgeous women living under the same roof?
Chaos, right? But then, what if all 25 are competing for the heart of
1 single guy? You’re bound for disaster. That is exactly what happens
on every episode of ABC’s hit show “The Bachelor.”
“It’s fun to watch all the girls get mad at each other and
then get kicked off,” states freshman, Blythe McAfee, a fan of the
show. As you can imagine, quarrels between the women are a common occurrence
on the show.
The show is in it’s fourth season on ABC. The way it works is simple.
It starts out with 25 women who want to win Bob’s (the bachelor’s)
heart. After the initial meeting Bob narrows it down to 15. On the next
episodes 10, then six, four, three, two, and then the final one. Then
comes the ultimate question. If he proposes, will she say, “I do?”
Students aren’t the only ones who get into the show. Many adults
are hooked on the show as well. Mr. Nate Vitosh, teacher, exclaims, “I’ve
seen all three of the “Bachelor” shows.” He goes on
to say, “I like the current bachelor, Bob. He’s a stud, and
funny.”
On the most recent episode Bob sent 4 women home. Misty, Jenny, Karin,
and Antoinette were all forced to pack up their things. With only 6 women
left at the bachelor pad, many people are rooting for their favorite girl.
The favorite at Leigh High seems to be Kelly Jo, while the most disliked
is Leeann. If you want to see who goes home next you can catch all the
excitement and chaos on Wednesday at 8:00 on ABC.

FCCLA, One Act
by Iris Ortez
What is happing the halls of Leigh? Many things are happing, from changing
class, running to the bathroom, and getting a lesson by a teacher for
talking too loud or not having homework done.
On October 8th the FCCLA chapter attended to DLC in Howells. Junior Amanda
Wendt and Tracy Zimmerman both ran for state officers at the conference.
Amanda describes the best part of DLC, “ Meeting the people and
seeing old friends.” FCCLA is very important to her, “ It
gives me great leadership skills,” said Amanda. FCCLA theme is,
“ Shoot for the moon, if you miss you’ll land among the stars.”
Amanda and Tracy’s dream is to became a state officer. As the day
closed, both were selected as state officer candidates.
The one act is one other organization that has been on the run too. Cast
members have been practicing the play, “ One wasn’t enough,”
The play is about a young girl in her senior year. Her family is mad at
her, her boyfriend is ignoring her, and her friends don’t talk to
her anymore. Josh Gall, senior, said, “ It is very good, and better
then last year”

One-Act begins with new year and coach
by Tiffany Mullenhoff
Imagine there was no-one there for you - no-one that stood by your side
through everything. Imagine being all alone, in a world filled with lies,
rumors, and gossip. Andie Anderson goes through it all, at least in Leigh’s
very own One-Act, written by actor and student herself, Nicole Wiemer.
“The basic theme of the play is about friendship - that even the
luckiest, smartest, and most-loved people need friends to confide in,”
said director Ms. Melanie Schultze. The play itself is about a teenage
pregnancy and all the struggles that Andie goes through along the way,
and eventually it just becomes too much for her to handle.
The role of Andie is played by junior, Christa Hake, and the rest of the
cast includes: Nicole Wiemer, Josh Gall, Jamie Liermann, Grant Janousek,
Ryan Hillen, Brianne Hake, Jessica Herink, Reed Janousek, Amanda Wendt,
Tatum Wiemer, Jenny Olson, Andrea Hillen, Jessica Wendt, Phillip Wendt,
Jeff Powell, Tracy Zimmerman, Justin Hathaway, Clancy Ahrens, Jen Maguire,
Kendra Urban, Becky Rahtz, Erica Ehlers, Christian Grevson, and Blythe
McAfee.
The behind the scenes people, but still very important crew members are:
Myles Kabes, Tim Gall, Tiffany Mullenhoff, Bryan Mohnsen, Derrick Beller,
Amanda Bayer, John Dietrich, Angela Fuhr, Sean Malena, Soshia Hollatz,
Adam Jacot, Steph Larson, Kayla Wietfeld and Krys Wendt. These people
do everything from actually assisting, to lights, props and hair.
“The combination of kids and the dedication I’ve seen so far
- I think they’ll do well,” said Ms. Schultze. The team first
takes the stage for the Community performance on November 18, and then
onto Platte College for the Conference competition of November 25. |

Another Cat Fight!
Panthers Fall To The Bobcats
by Brian Fuhr
Going into the last week of the JV football season the panthers were
looking at one of there toughest games all year. The JV panthers were
to match up against the Howells Bobcat Voss. Junior Nick Wieseler said
“we practiced hard all week to try to get our heads in the game”.
Howells jumped out to a 22-0 lead on the panthers in the first quarter.
In the second quarter the bobcats extended there lead to 38-0 before the
half.
In the third quarter the panthers seen the end zone and maybe some day
light. Sophomore Jake McMullin was 13 for 34 in passing with 204 yards
and 3 passing touchdowns. In the third the panthers held the bobcats to
only 6 points, while on the other hand they put up 16.
The third quarter was the turn around quarter for the panthers as they
came into the fourth on fire putting up 22 more points on the board. Nick
said “ We played good in the second half but we needed to that the
whole game”. The panther defense held the bobcat offense only 6
points once again. But as it goes the panthers ran out of time and the
clock struck zero the final score was 38-50 in favor of Howells.
Nick Wieseler said, “ We played well as a team we had a couple deep
passes to sophomore Andy Bachman and our running game picked up in the
second quarter”. He felt the season was a good one he said they
lost a few games but it was a learning experience.

that didn’t do us any good,” stated junior Janelle Hollatz.
Janelle ended the game with 4 kills and one dig. Jessica Herink added
8 points, but it just wasn’t enough to give the Panthers a victory.

There are many things that keep as busy through the year. We got classes
that we have to worry about. From math, science, english, spanish, art,
and into those ship class that we never put action, but at the end of
that chapter we never know what is going on. Those are not the only things
that we worry about there all kinds of things.
The class of 2005 has a new student. Her name is Leslie Borst. She also
has many things going on just like the student of Leigh High. She has
a busy schedule too many things happen to when. Leslie just move from
Michigan. She said that she move because she wanted to live with her father.

Not So Lucky
Varsity not as lucky as JV
by Jeff Powell
“Overall we did ok, we just need to come out at the Conference
Tourney and prove to ourselves that we are a good team.” This is
what senior Angela Fuhr said about the game against Lindsay Holy Family.
The sets were 11-15 and 13-15. This leaving Leigh’s record at 14-4.
This was a very close game. The only problem was that there wasn’t
enough teamwork. The leading scorers of the game were sophomores Tessa
Wietfeld with six points and Stephanie Larson with five points.
Overall, the team played very well. The only thing that Lindsay did better
according to Angela was “hustle, they out worked us.” With
a little more practice Leigh will be unstoppable.
Everyone on the team played well. Sophomore Jenny Olson and senior Nicole
Wiemer each had seven kills.

Final Farewell
Panther’s Stuff Lindsay Bulldogs!
by Amanda Wendt
October 21 is a day that all C team, JV players and their coach Ms. Grant,
will remember for a long time, their last game and how they fought for
the a big win over Lindsay.
“When Leigh was down 3 to ll and they came back and won 15 to 14
in the third set”, was one of the highlights for sophomore Jessica
Wendt. Jessica also served the final four points to seal that win. Helping
seal the C-teams victory in the first set Alisha Brabec, freshman, served
10 straight points to lead the way. She had a total of 19 points and was
a 100% serving to finalize this win. With a hard fought three sets and
the victory, the C team was ready to support the JV’s. With all
the excitement and hard work, it took only two sets and the JV had claimed
their victory.
With this season ending, Ms. Grant’s first year here has also come
to an end, “I was happy for the girls that they were able to finish
off their reserve season with a pair of victories. The coaching staff
has seen so much improvement from the start of the season! With a final
JV record of 10-4 as well as a final C-team record of 5-3, these girls
have put quite a season together.”
“With the C team and JV done, I feel we ended the season on a good
note”, said Jessica. With the whole team working hard to get their
serves over, to talk more on the court, and move to where the ball was,
it’s no wonder that both teams captured a win.
With only the Varsity games left, Jessica is there to support them, “We
ended on a good note and I hope the Varsity can go all the way.”

Lady Panthers fall to Howells Bobcats for 2nd time
by Nicole Wiemer
Well, what can be said, it wasn’t what we were hoping for, but
it was certainly far from discouraging. The Leigh Lady Panthers were defeated
by the Howells Bobcats in two straight sets, 15-7, 15-11, but not without
a fight.
“We played well as a whole, we had a few simple errors that could
have been eliminated, but what team doesn’t, we just couldn’t
seem to catch a break,” commented Sophomore Tatum Wiemer on the
game.
The Panthers who put up good stats, were led by Kayla Wietfeld who popped
up an impressive 20 digs, Nicole Wiemer who put down 11 kills, and Tessa
Wietfeld who had 25 set assists. Stephanie Larson added to the effort
with 11 digs and Jenny Olson pounded down 8 kills. While Angela Fuhr ended
the night with 5 points and 4 kills.
“We just couldn’t seem to get on a role,” added Wiemer,
“We were out blocked and out served.” Despite being out blocked
8-4 and serving a poor 85 percent, the score was still impressively close.
“It just wasn’t our night, we will get them the next time
around,” said Wiemer.
The Panthers are set to play the Lindsay Holy Family Bulldogs on the 21st
of October.
