In eighth grade P. E. this year, we have been learning many different things. At the start of the year, we learned new skills in golf. Once we learned all of the basics we went on a golfing trip to Vanberg in Pawnee Park. After we golfed, we went to eat pizza. Also, we played volleyball. We learned about serving, setting, and bumping. We played games. Now in P. E. we are learning the basics in basketball.
This year in math we have learned about multiplying, dividing, adding, and subtracting decimals, fractions, positives, and negatives. Our class has also learned about the different properties. Right now we are learning about simplifying equations. Further into the year, we will learn about how to measure a slope.
In Social Studies we are learning about our American History. Earlier in the year, we've learned about how the United States was founded. We also learned about slavery and the Civil War. Right now we are learning about inventors, and how they affected the United States. Also, we are learning how the American economy grew, and how bad working conditions were for workers.
In Computer Class, we just finished typing reports and learning how to cite our sources of information. We are now learning about how to be safe on the internet by doing research on the topic, creating PowerPoint presentations to share with the class and working through an internet safety simulation called "Missing". In this simulation, a 13 year old boy is kidnapped by a predator he met online. It is our task to discover clues and help the police find the boy and bring him home. Earlier in the year, we were learning about fake internet sites, hoaxes, and good searching techniques. Next month, we will start a business venture project, where we will create our own businesses and sale products to other students in the school.
In Science class, we were learning about all of the body systems. Earlier in the year, we learned about the respiratory system and respiration. We learned that the difference between respiration and the respiratory system is that respiration makes energy. In the respiratory system, you breath oxygen and the lungs pass it to the blood vessels and they distribute it throughout the body. We have also learned about the skeleton. Another thing we have learned about is the excretory system.
In Language Class, we are learning about different verbs and tenses. We are also learning how to identify the different types of verbs, adjectives, etc. Before this year we have learned about the different types of nouns and how they can change the sentence.
In Music our class, we have had a lot of fun. We just got done with our Christmas Program. Our class was very happy because we had first choice on the solos. This year our program was called A "Holiday To Remember". Our class sang a song called "Happy Kwaanza". It was about the joy and happiness Kwaanza brings to the hearts of others at this time of year.
