Music Music Touches Lives
Each year, the month of March is designated as Music In Our Schools month by MENC, the National Association for Music Education. This year the Lakeview Community Schools music students celebrated the month with several activities.
On March 3rd, the Viking Voices along with the Junior High Choir students form Platte Center, Shell Creek, Sunrise, St. Johns and Christ Lutheran attended the first ever City Choral Festival. These students joined music students from Columbus High School, Columbus Middle School, Columbus Christian and Immanuel Lutheran schools in preparing several pieces of music for an evening concert. The clinician for the event was Dr. Fritz Mountford from Hastings College. There were 362 students performing in the evening concert.
During the month of March, elementary students from Platte Center and Shell Creek learned music from the "Music In Our Schools Month" packet sponsored by MENC. Songs included: The Star Spangled Banner, There's a Song In Me, Fanga Alafia, Hallelujah, Get on Board, Hala lala layya, This Little Light of Mine, The spirit of America, and Music Rocks. At the end of their preparations, the students viewed a video prepared by MENC of groups from around the country singing in the World's Largest Concert featuring the songs from the packet.
