Third Grade Science Activities

Science is an area of discovery in children this age. This year we will learn about plants and seeds, simple machines, states of matter, rocks, the Earth and the moon, and, all children's favorite, animals and their habitats. The following web sites supplement and enhance a unit on "Critters and Creatures in the Classroom." We will have a variety of small animals visit our classroom and the children will have an opportunity to observe, identify, record, and share information gathered about these animals. They will also learn about the animals' natural habitats, needs, and life cycles. This is always a very exciting part of our classroom.

Third Grade Math Projects

Third Grade is a year when children become more independent and their math skills follow likewise. The world of wonder at this age includes numbers. We continue to add and subtract, regrouping into the thousands. We also learn to compute problems mentally, read and write numbers and number-words through hundred thousands, and much more. Probably the most exciting, however, is learning to multiply.
