Americans
use 4 million plastic bottles
every hour, but only 25% of plastic bottles are recycled. In 3
months time in Schuyler's Recycling Facillity, 6,125 pounds of plastic
bottles were recycled. A blue fleece jacket partially made of
recycled plastic was given to every elementary student in Colfax
County in 2006.
Paper made from recycled paper uses 70% less energy to make. Recycling one ton of paper saves 17 trees, 6,953 gallons of water, 463 gallons of oil and 3 cubic yards of landfil space. In 2 months time in Schuyler Recycling Faculty, 52,440 pounds of newspaper, 8,465 pounds of white paper, 7,535 pounds of shredded paper and 40,740 pounds of magazines were recycled.
Recycling one ton of aluminum saves 27 cubic yards of landfill space. In Schuyler, 3,812 pounds of aluminum were recycled in a year. The chamber uses the profit for it's fireworks display.
Keep Schuyler Beautiful Electronic Waste Grant 3rd Quarter 2007
Keep Schuyler Beautiful did not collect electronic waste during the 3rd quarter, but loaded the last electronic waste in August. As you can see we collected a large amount of waste during our Spring Fling held in June. All together we kept 30,290 pounds of electric waste and 53 microwaves out of our landfills, or worse yet, our area ditches.
Colfax County Recycling Facility Recycling Grant
The Colfax County Recycling Facility 3rd quarter saw an increase in product. The Recycling Facility gave a tour to an extension group that brought in new patrons.
We continue to promote our recycling facility through a variety of activities. The Gummi Worm project started up again with the start of the school and football, volleyball, and softball.

The Litter Cleanup organizations meet at the faculty when doing their litter pickups.
