Two members of the Wachiska Audubon Society came out with equipment and were assisted by members from Schuyler Central High School Ag classes and by Steve Heinish, Professor at Central Community College - Columbus.

The Wachiska Audubon Society was founded in Lincoln, Nebraska, in 1973.

Wachiska is one of more than 500 local chapters of the National Audubon Society. With more than 600,000 members nationwide, the NAS works to preserve and protect the diversity of all wildlife and their habitat.

Within a 17-county membership area in Southeast Nebraska, more than 1,000 members of Wachiska work as active partners with NAS in their efforts, and over the years the chapter has achieved impressive results.
